Or finding ways to make your beauty burn longer? Get ready because we are going to break it all down with this guide and give you some bright ideas.

CANDLE 101: GUIDE TO BURNING YOUR CANDLE PROPERLY

Dedicated flame lovers may already know this but to make sure your candle burns evenly, you want to follow these 3 basic candle principles: trim, center, and wait.

1. TRIMMING YOUR WICK

Do you like burning money? Didn't think so. Do yourself a favor and trim your wick 1/8" inch before each burn. You can use a wick trimmer or even a pair of scissors. This will ensure that your candle burns a little longer and safer. We hand cut each candle wick before delivery so your first burn should be ok but make sure to keep it cut after, if it gets too long. Optimal wick length should be under a centimeter. It is helpful to do this before you light your candle as you don't want the debris to fall into the wax when it is lit.

2. CENTER YOUR WICK

Making sure your wick is centered will allow for frictionless fragrance throw. You can do this quickly before each burn by gently guiding the wick back into place towards the center of the candle. Keeping your candle wick centered ensures that your candle will burn evenly throughout and not burn more on one side. This is important because if your wick gets too long or out of place, it could cause the glass to heat too quickly on one side and crack.

3. RELAX AND WAIT UNTIL YOUR CANDLE IS FULLY MELTED

ATTENTION BURN BABIES! This is the MOST critical step. The first time you burn your candle make sure to wait at least 3-4 hours or until the wax pool liquefies to the edge of your glass. Once the wax pool is completely melted on the top, then you can blow out your candle.

Why is this the most important step you ask? Because if you blow out a candle too quickly, the wax has "memory" and will stay in this position for the length of your burn. Freaky, right?

Once your candle has this memory ring, it will continue to tunnel downwards throughout the life of the candle. A good rule of thumb is to burn the candle one hour for every inch of diameter of the vessel.

FOR SAFETY'S SAKE REMINDERS:

Get lit without getting burned. Here are a few helpful safety reminders to making the most of your burn.

DON'T BURN NEXT TO KIDS, PETS, FLAMMABLES OR SOME HUSBANDS OR WIVES

If your partner is like mine, she will want to spontaneously start cleaning around or near my new candle. That is why it is important to not leave an open flame near any children or pets who may be at risk of harming themselves or others. Burn your candles on a non-flammable surface where they are in sight. Never leave a burning candle unattended. It helps to keep it away from a draft so that the flame does not risk carrying and helps to burn more evenly.

STORING YOUR CANDLE

Because you purchased a beautiful clean candle made with all-natural waxes, free of dyes and additives, our candles can be a little bit sensitive. Temperature and light can affect the appearance of candles due to the natural wax and fragrance oils. Be sure to store in a cool, dry place away from any direct sunlight. A cupboard is perfect or in a dark room or closet. It is always good to keep the candle in its original box and with the lid on to protect it from discoloration, fading, and collecting dust.

KNOW WHEN TO SAY GOODBYE & STOP BEFORE YOU GET BURNED

We know our wonderful scents can transport you to a dreamy vacation, but after a few hours, you will need to come back to reality. We recommend to not burn your candle for more than 4-5 hours. You can extinguish your candle simply by blowing it out or using a bell snuffer (yes - if you didn't already know or have them, there are candle accessories out there!) You can also use the lid to extinguish your flame by preventing oxygen to fuel it.

Wait an additional 2 hours before you begin to burn again as this gives the wax time to cool and will prolong your burn time.

STOP BURNING WHEN THERE IS LESS THAN 1/4" OF WAX LEFT IN THE GLASS

When the majority of the wax has been consumed, the flame will heat the container making the bottom of the jar hot. To prevent possible heat damage to your container and surface, stop burning after only 1/4" of your candle is left. When you are finished with your candle, try our guide to repurposing your candle vessel. If you are having trouble getting out the remainder of your wax, you can also reference our instructions on ways to remove candle wax.

CANDLE TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS & FAQS

WHY DO MY CANDLES SWEAT?

Don't sweat it. If you find liquid on the top of your candle wax, this just means the fragrance is sweating. This is due to the generous amount of fragrance we load in each of our candles, giving you a little extra love.

CANDLE WAX DISCOLORATION

If your wax isn't white, no worries. Our naturally derived ingredients in our formula can cause the candle to change colors with exposure to light or temperature change.

AIR BUBBLES IN THE CANDLE

If you find air bubbles in your candle, this is simply caused by surrounding temperature changes and will not affect your candle's lifespan or diffusion.

Who knew these little guys were so fragile?

WHY CANDLES TUNNEL?

If your candle is tunneling, this is due to the "memory ring." Your candle will remember where it left off and if the candle did not liquefy to the edge from the first burn, it will stay that way. If only everyone listened to us as our candles do.

There is a light at the end of the tunneling! An easy way to fix this is to give it a longer burn time your next go-around. Try burning a little longer than usual or enough for the pool to reach the edge.

Candles will never go out of style, and they are the perfect year-round accessory that will make your home feel like you. Are you looking to brighten up your living room? Do you want your bedroom to feel zen and cozy? The best way to make your home unique to you is to scatter around your favorite candles: stylish, cozy, and chic!

Candles are too often overlooked when it comes to home decor. What people don’t know is that with the right placement and optimal curation, your home can too be on the cover of every home magazine. Candles can brighten up your space, add a pop of color to the basics, and of course leave behind the most desirable aromas. Most importantly, candles make your space warm and welcoming for yourself and your visitors.

With Tall Pine Candles, you can add them to essentially any room for a polished and classic look. The classic look can be used as a statement piece in an all-white room or can blend into any darker set ups that you may already have. Place the candles in bunches or stand alone to make your room unique to you.

One of the best ways to decorate your space is by staging your candle to match any other home decor like coffee table books, flowers, and other ornaments. The grouping of candles will bring a tasteful and sophisticated look to your space. Try mixing candles of various heights, but stick with the same color, for the most elegant masterpiece.

For a taste of fresh air, you can also play around with different scents. One of my favorite combinations of scents from the Tall Pine Candles line is pairing our Black Amber & Lavender and Vanilla Bean fragrances. This pairing of Black Amber & Lavender’s exotic Egyptian amber with Vanilla Bean’s warm and rich, buttery aroma will draw you in and fill your room with a decadent aroma. You can even use all of the same scent to give a certain room a signature smell for when people walk in.

The best part is that you can reuse your beautiful candle holders once the wax burns out! Follow our tips to remove candle wax to make your candle holders into vases for flowers or small jars for bathroom decor. By reusing these candle holders, you do not have to change the ambiance of your space! Reusing your candle holders allows a fresh, vibrant addition to the rooms you love the most around your household.

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to take a few minutes to bring you up to speed about some things going on around the shop in front of the upcoming holidays.

This time of year can get busy and hectic. With preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas it seems everything gets rushed, things get shuffled and some things we just plain forget. I just want to give you a little head start. My own candle-making limits and mail-carrier shipping delays could make for unpredictable timelines again this year. For extra peace of mind, we suggest completing all your holiday shopping early this year (not just with Tall Pine Candles), as online orders could take up to two full weeks, or more, to arrive at your door.

There are also changes coming within the next few months here at the shop. There have been several requests about adding (and removing) various scents from our collection. I am still mulling over what to add and to remove. If there is something you would like to see added or removed, just send me an email.

Another big request from our members is for a monthly candle subscription. Again, I am working on figuring out how to give you, our wonderful customers, the best product and price possible. I will be bringing this suggestion to life. Just not right away. I always want to hear what you think about what is happening around here so if there are suggestions you want to share, please do so. I am eager to hear them.

Additionally, we are thrilled to be launching a small-batch “Limited Edition” series of candles very soon. These will be in a larger 16-ounce vessel with themed fragrances. The current theme I am working on will be called “Arizona”. What better place to start. Stay tuned!

Last month we raised money to benefit National Breast Cancer Awareness. I want to thank the wonderful family of Tall Pine candles for your help in doing this. Every Lavender candle sold, a portion went to The Breast Care Center at Dignity Health. I have decided to continue that support through the remainder of the year. I deeply hope that all of you keep me busy making Lavender candles and Lavender wax melts!!

And on a community-minded note, with the Midterm elections happening on November 8th, I want to encourage and celebrate everyone who gets out there to vote. Just click on this link to find where you can go to vote. Just remember to vote in person.

If you email me a selfie picture of your “I Voted” sticker pics you will be entered into a raffle, and I will select one participant at random to win a 10-ounce Classic Jar Candle of your choice, on us! (US-only. Entry must be received by 11/15 at 11:59 pm MST).

I can not extend my gratitude enough for continuing to share your love for our candles, especially through this past year of transitions. You make it possible for us to be a small yet mighty business with big hopes and dreams.

Warmly as ever,
